As the cold winds of the upcoming winter blow and our alums worldwide are embarking upon holiday TRADITIONS of their own, we would like to take this opportunity to thank the many alums who have joined the UAAA this year and supported our mission and work with their dues. We are proud to be what we think is one of the largest and best connected public high school alumni associations in the country, and without your financial support, we could not make this happen.

It is not too late to make your 2010 tax-deductible contribution of $15 for an Annual Membership, $60 for a 5-year membership, $250 for a Lifetime Membership, and $500 for a Golden Bear membership.

The Life and Golden Bear memberships may be made in 10 installments, and they do not need to be in consecutive months! Members may join by either writing a check or using Paypal. If you are the parent of an alum, consider a membership a great gift for stocking stuffer!

Please visit our Membership page for all the details! NOTE: If you enjoy visiting and receiving our email newsletter, please consider contributing to your Alumni Association. We really do need your help!

It is with great sadness that we report the passing of longtime and beloved English teacher, Vera K. Randall, who passed away in September shortly after celebrating her 100th birthday. Miss Randall taught at UAHS from 1943-1969 and touched the lives of many students. Miss Randall was one of the first inductees into the UAHS Educators' Hall of Fame, and her passing sadly marks the end of a chapter in UAHS history.

Shortly after her passing, members of the Classes of 1954, 1955, and 1956 approached the UA Education Foundation wishing to establish a memorial fund in her memory. The Vera K. Randall Memorial Fund, whose purpose is to support and encourage reading and writing initiatives that benefit Language Arts students at UAHS, was accepted into the UAEF family of funds in November, and the Class of 1949 made an initial contribution of $1,140.00!

If you wish to make a contribution to this fund, please make your tax-deductible contribution payable to "UAEF" and send it to:

1950 North Mallway
Columbus, OH 43221

Please write "VK Randall" on the memo line.

We thank the classes of 1949, 1954,1955, and 1956 for their dedication to Miss Randall and UAHS and their work in establishing this memorial fund.

The Upper Arlington Library announces that they have now added the 2000 issue of the Norwester to their online collection.

The contract between the schools and the library provides that the most recent ten years of yearbooks will not be offered online. As a result, one new yearbook will be added per year. Look for the 2001 Norwester to be offered online this time next year. Thank you to our library for investing the time and effort to produce these online versions of our special yearbooks!

Jon Agee '60, has published his third novel. Due to a name conflict, Mr. Agee uses the nom de plume Noah Bond. The Lost Testimony of Bones LeBeau describes the plot to assassinate President Kennedy through the eyes of a fictional character. Bones LeBeau went straight from the bayous to work for Carlos Marcello. From the secret back room of a New Orleans restaurant to Jack Ruby's Carousel in Dallas, Bones witnessed the plot from inception to execution. Lansky, Ferrie, Seal, Marcello, Sinatra, Trafficante, Giancana. Oswald, Ruby --- she knew them all. This is what she told to the FBI, who lost the recording. This is the first book to present a compelling, credible account of the plot, and the hidden motive.

As graduates of Upper Arlington High School, we share a special bond that lasts a lifetime, and it is with sad hearts that we announce the passing of the following UAHS alumni and faculty. To their families and friends we extend our sincere condolences.

1952 Jim Watson
1959 Bob Jencks
1976 Amy Chilcote Dailey

Thanks so much to all of you who pay dues to the UAAA. These dues are critical to the support of our organization. Many alums think that funding for the Alumni Association comes from the school district. WRONG! We are completely self-sustaining and need these dues in order to maintain our database of nearly 30,000 graduates and to pay the costs of running our Web site, We are proud that we do not require a login and password for our Web site and we do not restrict it to dues-paying members. However, over the past few years, we have seen our number of dues-paying members decline. We need YOU! Our tax-deductible dues are modest, so it is our goal to increase membership, and we hope that we can count on you. Membership in UAAA is available at four levels:

Annual      $15 / year
Reunion - 5 years      $60 (One year free!)
Life      $250: one-time!
Golden Bear      $500: one-time!
SPECIAL: We are offering a payment plan for the Life and Golden Bear Membership levels! You can commit to the level you wish and pay it off over 10 months; they don't even need to be consecutive months. We truly hope that you will help us out at whatever level is comfortable for you, and we thank you for your support AT ANY LEVEL!

Some people are online a great deal and prefer to pay with Paypal; others prefer printing the membership form and mailing us a check. We appreciate your dues, and we want to make it easy for you, so please select your preferred method of payment.:

Paypal Online
Print the Membership Form and mail in a check
We wish to thank these alums who have recently joined at the Golden Bear and Life Membership levels:
1955 Tom Williams
1992 Shannon Ingram Tolliver
Please visit our Membership page for complete details and payment options. See our list of Life Members and Golden Bear members.

Because we respect our alums' privacy, we list names and email addresses on ONLY when they are personally submitted by the alum. When we started in 2000, we had approximately 320 email addresses in our database; we currently have almost 13,000 alums' email addresses listed on!

If you are not listed on your class page but wish to be, please send in your information. If you notice that one of your classmates isn't listed, please contact that person and ask them to visit and personally submit his or her information. And if you see someone's name on the Lost list at the bottom of each class page, and you know his or her location, please let us know, or contact that classmate and ask him or her to contact UAAA.

Our goal is to maintain the most complete and accurate database that we possibly can. We are asking for your help! And thank you to those of you who have helped us through your membership dues; your financial help allows us to provide the ongoing hosting and maintenance fees of our Web site.

We hope that you will make sure that we have your current postal mailing address, phone number, and email address. Below are the email addresses to use to send this information to the correct person at UAAA:

To update your mailing address / phone number Email Joanie Dugger
To submit your email address to be added to Email Ellen Clark
To submit personal or class news for Traditions / Email Joanie Dugger
Questions or comments about Email Ellen Clark
What do YOU want to hear about in our newsletter? Please let us know! Email Joanie Dugger
We look forward to receiving your news submissions about college, careers, weddings, births, honors and achievements, and anything else you'd like to share with other UAHS alums.
These members of the Upper Arlington Alumni Association Board of Directors are working to make sure that all our alums have the ability to be connected and informed through our newsletter and our Web site, BEARALUMS.COM, and that it is easy and fun!
